What our consultants would suggest

If you're choosing one magnesium, our consultants would point most South Africans at glycinate or citrate first — the two most bioavailable forms, gentle on the stomach, with the best evidence behind them.

For sleep and stress: glycinate. For energy/cramping/digestive: citrate. For brain and focus: Magtein (L-threonate). For a daily magnesium we'd reach for glycinate or citrate first.

Common questions

What kind of magnesium should I take?

For sleep and nervous-system support: glycinate. For energy, cramping or daily maintenance: citrate. For brain and focus: L-threonate (Magtein). Skip oxide — it's cheap but poorly absorbed.

How much magnesium do I need daily?

The standard adult daily requirement is around 310–420mg. Most clinical sleep/stress protocols use 200–400mg of elemental magnesium taken in the evening. Always read the label — "500mg of magnesium citrate" is not the same as "500mg of elemental magnesium".

Can I take magnesium with my other medication?

Magnesium can interact with some antibiotics, bisphosphonates, and certain blood-pressure medications. If you're on chronic medication, speak to your doctor or pharmacist before you order.

Same-day pickup in Gauteng?

Yes — order online by midday, collect at our Centurion, Glen Village or Edenvale stores the same day. Free, no courier fee, and you can chat to a consultant when you pop in.

From the counter

The mineral everyone is short of time for

Magnesium is our most-recommended single mineral, and the form matters more than the brand: glycinate for calm evenings and sensitive stomachs, citrate for affordability and regularity, orotate and taurate blends like BodyMag for the heart-and-muscle crowd, and the classic 7/87 complex that pairs seven forms in one capsule.

Picking your form

Tell us the job — better evenings, training recovery, everyday maintenance — and we'll name the form in one sentence. Doses on South African labels are elemental magnesium, so compare that number, not capsule counts; more is not better past what the body can use. Magnesium supports normal muscle and nervous-system function. The counter has explained the difference between citrate and glycinate several thousand times since 1996 and genuinely doesn't mind doing it again — WhatsApp us free.
