What our consultants would suggest

If you're stressed, vegan, vegetarian or over 50, a B-complex is one of the simplest cheats we know. Our consultants would point most people at a methylated B-complex with active forms (methylcobalamin B12, methyl-folate, P-5-P B6) taken with breakfast.

Cheap B-complexes use synthetic cyanocobalamin and folic acid — fine for some, but methylated forms suit most people, including the roughly a third of people who don't methylate well.

Common questions

Methylated B-complex vs regular?

Methylated B-complexes use the active forms (methylcobalamin, methyl-folate, P-5-P) — your body uses them directly. Regular B-complexes use cheaper synthetic forms (cyanocobalamin, folic acid) that need to be converted. Roughly a third of people don't convert well due to MTHFR gene variants.

Why is my pee yellow after taking B-vits?

That's the riboflavin (B2) — it's water-soluble, your body uses what it needs and excretes the rest. Not a sign of waste — just normal. Take it with food to slow absorption.

Do vegans definitely need B12?

Yes — B12 is not reliably found in plant foods. Sublingual lozenges or sprays absorb best. Test your B12 yearly if you're long-term vegan. Pregnant vegan or vegan kids: don't skip this.

Best time to take B-complex?

Morning with breakfast. Bs are energising for most people — don't take at night. If you get nauseous on empty stomach, definitely take with food.

From the counter

Eight vitamins, one busy committee

The B vitamins work as a team — energy metabolism, nervous system, the works — and this shelf's star is the activated B-complex: formulas like Natroceutics' Advanced that use the forms your body would otherwise have to convert (methylfolate instead of folic acid, methylcobalamin instead of plain B12). Students in exam season, the chronically busy and anyone on a plant-based plate are this bay's regulars.

Activated vs ordinary

Cheaper complexes aren't a scam — but a meaningful share of people convert standard forms inefficiently, which is why the activated versions cost more and often feel different. Bright yellow urine is normal riboflavin, not a fault. B vitamins contribute to normal energy metabolism and reduced tiredness; persistent exhaustion still deserves a doctor's look.
