Scientific information about natural vitamin C ingredients
Although vitamin C is mostly found in citrus fruit, vegetables such as broccoli, peppers and Brussels sprouts are also very high in vitamin C. The problem is that fresh produce left exposed to air could lose 30% to 49% of its nutrition in a period of 3 to 24 hours (depending on the food and exposure). Processing and storage can also lead to a reduction of 90% plus in the vitamin C content.
Vitamin C is one of the nutrients that the body needs and cannot manufacture itself, and therefore needs to come from the diet or supplementation.
Buffered vitamin C is a form of vitamin C that minimises the gastric discomfort or acidic irritation that some people experience with plain ascorbic acid.
Fat-soluble vitamin C is retained in the body for far longer periods of time, and supports the transport of vitamin C to the heart, brain and central nervous system.
The herbal vitamin C sources: acerola, citrus bioflavonoids, hesperidin, rutin and rose hip are concentrated natural sources of vitamin C and plant flavonoids, included to complement the vitamin C in this formula and support its absorption.
Zinc and selenium support the production, function and absorption of many substances such as vitamins, minerals and amino acids, and contribute to normal immune function.
Vitamin C plays such a big role in the body that it is not possible to list everything it is involved in here. Areas and systems where vitamin C plays a major supporting role include:
- Healthy ageing
- Cardiovascular system
- Cell and cellular mechanisms
- Digestive system
- Eyes and eyesight
- Immune system
- Metabolic system
- Muscular and skeletal system
- Nervous system
- Respiratory system
- Sexual system
- Skin and hair
- Antioxidant function
