Clear Root Fire comes from “The Golden Mirror of Medicine”, written by Wu Qian of the Qing Dynasty in China. The book was completed in 1742 AD and its title was given by the Chinese emperor Qianlong.
The prescription is based on the nourishing Kidney-Yin foundation formula Nourish Root Yin, with Rhizoma Anemarrhenae and Cortex Phellodendri Chinensis added.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Clear Root Fire is associated with replenishing the Kidney and Yin, balancing Yin and Yang, and clearing Heat and Dampness. Within the TCM framework it is traditionally used for patterns of Deficiency Fire and Damp-Heat in the lower body.
