Common questions

What is Chinaherb Meno Well?+

Meno Well is the traditional Chinese formula Gen Nian Ping. In TCM terms it tonifies and harmonizes Kidney Yin and Kidney Yang, clears the Heat that Chinese medicine links to Yin deficiency, and calms the mind.

What is Meno Well used for?+

It is a traditional formula for the changes around menopause — hot flushes, sweating, irritability, restlessness and disturbed, dreamy sleep. Chinese medicine attributes these to the natural decline of Kidney Qi around this stage of life.

How does the TCM view explain hot flushes?+

In TCM, oestrogen is considered a Yin-type hormone, so when the body stops producing it there is a relative deficiency of Yin, which shows up as Heat signs like flushing and night sweating. Meno Well works by nourishing Yin — especially Kidney Yin — and clearing that Heat.

Can Meno Well be combined with other Chinaherb formulas?+

Yes — the tradition adds Clear Root Fire when flushes and sweating are strong, or Tonic Yang when cold feelings dominate. Check the label for directions, speak to your healthcare provider if you are pregnant, nursing or on medication, and our consultants can help you choose in-store or on WhatsApp.

Product details

更年平 / Gen Nian Ping

Treats the following symptoms:

Meno-Well tonifies and harmonizes Kidney Yin and Kidney Yang. Chinese medicine believes that women’s Kidney Qi gradually declines before and after menopause. Tiangui (the special Essence stored in the Kidneys that promote reproductive function) gets exhausted and the Chong and Ren Meridians will be weak, menstruation will break to menopause, the reproductive ability will decline and disappear, and there will be some hot flush, sweating, irritability, insomnia, swelling of the limbs, skin removal, feeling restlessness and other symptoms around menstrual disorders or menopause.

It is an ideal formulation for the treatment of andro-/ and menopausal symptoms. Estrogen is considered a Yin type hormone in TCM, while Testosterone is a Yang type hormone. When the body stops producing estrogen, it results in a relative deficiency of Yin, often causing bothersome Heat signs. Meno-Well helps to minimize hot flashes and restlessness by clearing Heat caused by Yin deficiency, nourishing Yin (especially Kidney Yin which is closely associated with aging) and calming the mind. When using it, you can also add additional formulation according to the characteristics of symptoms. For example, Clear Root Fire is added when hot flushes and sweating are increased; adding Tonic Yang when cold feeling and occurring oedema.

MENOPAUSAL SYNDROME

Disease description:

Menopause is a natural biological process and marks the time the end of your menstrual cycles. It’s diagnosed after a woman has gone 12 months without a menstrual period and can start in a woman’s 40s or 50s. Physical and psychological complaints during this period usually last between six months to three years, until the body has gotten used to the new hormonal situation. In some women, menopause triggers symptoms that severely impair the quality of life, and they may experience, hot flushes, sweating, insomnia, back and joint complaints, mood swings and depressive moods as some of the most common symptoms.

Explanation according to the Traditional Chinese Medicine:

Kidney Deficiency is the root cause of Menopausal Syndrome. Before and after menopause, women’s KidneyQi gradually declines, Chong and Ren Meridians lose their abilities. This leads to exhaustion of Tiangui (a substance that promotes the maturation of human reproductive organs and maintains reproductive function when the Essence in the Kidney is filled to a certain degree), lack of Essence and Blood, imbalance of Yin and Yang. Kidney Yin or Kidney Yang become then too  weak. The syndrome shown is called Menopausal Syndrome.

Possible syndromes causing these problems:

Kidney Yin Deficiency with Empty Heat

Hot flashes, feeling of burning in palm and sole, malar flush, night sweating, restlessness, insomnia, dry mouth, dry hair, dry skin, vaginal dryness, constipation.
