Product details

Dried St John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum), cut, is one of the best-known herbs of the Western herbal tradition, long used by herbalists in support of a balanced mood during times of low spirits and tension.

Herbalists also make use of the herb externally: it is traditionally prepared in creams, salves and oil infusions for the care of skin subjected to bruises, burns, cuts and scrapes.

Pharma Germania St John’s Wort comes cut and dried, ready for use as a herbal tea (prepare as an infusion, see below) or in home preparations. If you take chronic medication, speak to your healthcare practitioner before adding herbal preparations to your routine.

How to make a good cup of herbal tea

Tea made from botanic material (leaves, seeds, flowers etc.) is called herbal tea. It can be made from fresh or dried material and divided into infusions (tisanes) and decoctions. The quantity of herb required for a cup of tea is usually between 1 and 2 teaspoons — please see the information leaflet inside every box for more specific guidance.

Infusion / tisane (leaves, flowers or powders): take the required quantity of herbs and place in one cup of boiled water. Steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Strain and drink hot or cold.

Decoction (roots, seeds or barks): take the required quantity of herbs and place in 500ml of water. Bring to the boil on the stove and remove from heat. Let it steep for 15 to 20 minutes. Strain and drink hot or cold. The material can be mashed to extract the compounds and oils.

Mixtures of various herbs: if a mixture of two or more herbs has been made, use a teaspoon of the mixture when making your tea. The tea can be sweetened with honey if so desired.
