玉屏风散 / Yu Ping Feng San

Tonic Defensive Qi was created by Wei Yilin, a Chinese physician in the Yuan Dynasty, and is a classic formula in Traditional Chinese Medicine for strengthening Qi and solidifying the resistance.

Strengthening Qi refers in the tradition to nourishing the Qi of the Lungs and Spleen: the Defensive Qi is controlled by the Lungs, and Lung Qi is produced by the Spleen. Within the TCM framework it is traditionally used for patterns of Wei Qi (Defensive Qi) weakness, described in the tradition by fatigue, spontaneous sweating and aversion to Wind.
