Smooth Liver came out of the Ming Dynasty and was mentioned in Ye Wenling’s “Medical Purpose”, published in 1535 AD.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine it is a formula for Liver Qi Stagnation patterns — described in the tradition by low mood with pain or distension along the Liver Meridian, such as discomfort in the ribs area, stomach fullness and frequent involuntary sighing, often worse with stress or emotional upset.
