生脉散 / Sheng Mai San

Qi-Yin Enrichment was first published in 1231 AD and was edited by Li Dongyuan in “Differentiation on Internal and External Diseases”. It is an ancient recipe associated in Traditional Chinese Medicine with replenishing the Qi and Yin of the Heart and Lung, replenishing by nourishing and not drying, with a peaceful nature.

In the tradition it is used to restore physical strength — for example after demanding exertion in summer heat with excessive sweating, when loss of Qi and Yin shows as upset and weakness of the limbs. It is said that Qianlong, the emperor of the Qing Dynasty in China, took Sheng Mai San daily.
