Common questions

What is Chinaherb Expel Stasis used for?+

Expel Stasis (Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine formula used to promote Blood circulation, remove what TCM calls Blood Stasis, move Qi and ease pain. In TCM it is used for Blood Stagnation patterns, which can show up as fixed, stabbing headaches, chest discomfort, or dark, clotty and painful periods. Check the label, and our consultants can help in-store or on WhatsApp.

Can I take Expel Stasis while pregnant?+

No — Expel Stasis is contra-indicated in pregnancy. Always speak to your healthcare provider if you are pregnant, nursing or on medication.

Where does the Expel Stasis formula come from?+

The formula originates from the 'Correction on Errors in Medical Classics' by Wang Qingren of the Qing Dynasty, dated 1830 AD. It was built around the principle of promoting Blood circulation and removing Blood Stasis, and has been widely used in Chinese medicine for Blood Stagnation patterns ever since.

How does Traditional Chinese Medicine describe Blood Stagnation?+

In TCM, Blood Stagnation is felt as severe, intense, stabbing pain that stays fixed in one place rather than a dull ache. Signs mentioned alongside this formula include a dull tongue colour with purple spots, dark and clotty menstrual flow, and long-standing dark, thick-walled skin blemishes that leave scars. Our consultants can help you work out whether the pattern fits — in-store or on WhatsApp.

Product details

血府逐瘀汤 / Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang — Expel Stasis (60 tablets)

Expel Stasis originates from the "Correction on Errors in Medical Classics" by Wang Qingren of the Qing Dynasty, published in 1830 AD. It is one of the most famous Blood-moving formulas in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine terms, the formula is composed to promote Blood circulation, dispel Blood Stasis, move Qi and ease discomfort associated with Stagnation patterns — traditionally described as fixed, stabbing discomfort, a dull or purple-spotted tongue, and dark, clotty menstrual flow.

Chinaherb formulas are classical prescriptions produced in tablet form. Traditional Chinese Medicine works with individual patterns — for the best result, use under the guidance of a TCM practitioner who can confirm that this formula matches your pattern.

Contra-indicated in pregnancy. This product is a traditional Chinese medicine and is not intended to diagnose or cure any disease. Unexplained or persistent pain, and chest pain in particular, needs medical attention — see your doctor. Consult your healthcare practitioner before use if you are taking chronic medication, including blood-thinning medication.
