It is a traditional Chinese herbal formula, Qing Qi Hua Tan Wan, first recorded in a work edited by Wu Kun, a famous Chinese doctor of the Ming Dynasty. For more than 500 years this classical formula has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for the pattern it names — Phlegm-Heat accumulating in the Lungs — traditionally described as cough with thick, yellow sputum, chest tightness and a feeling of fullness in the chest.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine terms, the formula is composed to clear Heat, transform Phlegm and restore the free downward movement of Lung Qi.
