A live-culture liquid — probiotics and organic acids — combined in equal parts with Aloe Ferox. 1 litre, brown, and always diluted before you drink it. It can also be used on the skin.

What the label says

Rafaa® is a mixture of live probiotics and organic acids. Aloe Rafaa® is an equal combination of Rafaa® and Aloe Ferox, and can be used orally or on the skin.

The maker explains that the colour and taste vary from batch to batch and darken over time, because it is an organic product and the cultures in it continue to grow. That is expected, not a fault.

How to take it

By mouth: once or twice daily, diluted with water, iced tea, fruit juice or a cold drink to soften the taste. Never neat.

On the skin: apply neat or slightly diluted, two to three times a day, and leave it to dry.

If you take medication: the maker's instruction is to take your medication first, wait 30 minutes, and then drink Rafaa®.

Aloe Rafaa® may contain small pieces of Aloe Ferox, which the maker attributes to colder weather during manufacturing.

Before you buy

Not recommended for pregnant women — the maker states it could stimulate the uterus — nor for nursing mothers, as it can pass through the milk; nor for people with intestinal irritation, nor for anyone sensitive to aloe products.

On starting: Rafaa state that some people notice mild headache, nausea or muscle and joint aches in the first few days, and that it usually passes. If it does not pass within a few days, or if it is more than mild, stop taking it and speak to a consultant or your doctor.
