How is UC-II different from ordinary collagen powders?+
UC-II is undenatured (native) type II collagen derived from chicken sternum cartilage — the principal structural protein in cartilage, responsible for its tensile strength and toughness. Rather than acting as a bulk protein source, this unique form works with the immune system to support healthy joints, which is why the serving is a single small capsule of 40 mg.
How do I take NOW UC-II Type II Collagen?+
Take 1 capsule daily at bedtime on an empty stomach. It is for adults only — consult your physician if you are pregnant or nursing, taking medication, or have a medical condition, and keep it out of reach of children.
Is UC-II vegetarian, and does it contain common allergens?+
No — it is derived from chicken sternum cartilage, so it is not vegetarian. It is not manufactured with yeast, wheat, gluten, soy, milk, egg, fish, shellfish, tree nut or sesame ingredients, though it is produced in a GMP facility that processes other ingredients containing these allergens.
What else is in the capsule besides collagen?+
Each capsule also provides 80 mg of calcium from Aquamin, a seaweed-derived mineral ingredient, alongside the 40 mg of UC-II standardized chicken cartilage. The capsule itself is hypromellose (a cellulose capsule). Natural colour variation may occur in this product.

What the label says
UC-II® is undenatured (native) type II collagen, which is a different thing from the hydrolysed collagen powders sold by the tub — it is taken at milligrams rather than grams, and that is why the dose looks so small next to a collagen scoop.
