Do not share your medicines with any other person.

Always take FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor, pharmacist, or healthcare provider has told you. Check with your doctor, pharmacist, or healthcare provider if you are not sure.

Adults 18 years and older
Take 1 sachet per day, with or without food.
Dissolve the content of the sachet in ± 100 ml water prior to drinking. Once opened, use the sachet immediately.
You can continue with FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED for as long as you derive benefit from it.
Do not to exceed the recommended maximum dose of 1 sachet per day without consulting your healthcare provider.

Paediatric population
Children and adolescents aged 12 to 17 years
Take 1 sachet per day. Only take FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED under the guidance of your healthcare provider.

If you take more FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED than you should
In the event of overdosage, consult your doctor or pharmacist. If neither is available, contact the nearest hospital or poison control centre.

If you forget to take FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED
If you forget to take FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED, take the next dose as soon as you remember. If it is the next day, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule of 1 sachet per day. Do NOT take a double dose to make up for forgotten individual doses.

1. What FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED is and what it is used for
FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED is a complementary medicine that contains inulin (a prebiotic fibre), glutamine, slippery elm, and a combination of probiotics to help normalise the intestinal microbial balance and to improve the functioning of the digestive tract. It is indicated for use in adults and children 12 years and older.

2. What you need to know before you take FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED

Do NOT take FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED

• If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to inulin, glutamine, slippery elm, probiotics, or any of the other components of the formulation (see Warnings and precautions and What FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED contains)
• If your immune system is compromised or suppressed – this may be due to, amongst others, AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome), lymphoma or long-term use of corticosteroids or other medicines to suppress your immune system (see Warnings and precautions and Other medicines and FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED).

Warnings and precautions

You should not take FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED if have been diagnosed with impaired function of your immune system as you may be at risk of developing an infection from the live and active micro-organisms in the formulation (see Do NOT take FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED and Possible side effects).

If any of the following applies to you, you should avoid taking FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED as it may also increase your risk of developing an infection:

• You have an indwelling catheter.
• You have been diagnosed with disorder that may damage the lining of your gut. Examples of such disorders include short bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease (e.g., ulcerative colitis), or obstruction of the intestines following surgery. Please speak to your doctor if you are not sure.

Professional Information – 4.4 Special warnings and precautions for use: Rare cases of bacteraemia were reported in patients with peripheral or central venous catheters who took probiotics (see section 4.8). Opening probiotic sachets at the bedside may increase this risk.

If you have a heart valve lesion, you should not take FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED before you go for dental surgery, a scope of the stomach (gastroscopy) or colon (colonoscopy), or for an operation involving the gut. Please speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to monosodium glutamate (MSG), you should avoid taking FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED. It contains glutamine which is metabolised (broken down) to glutamate in the body (see Do NOT take FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED and Possible side effects).

If you have severe liver disease, please discuss the use of FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED with your treating doctor before you start taking it. It contains glutamine which is metabolised to ammonia. You will require regular monitoring of your ammonia levels.

If you have bipolar mood disorder, it is important that you strictly adhere to the recommended maximum daily dosage of 1 sachet (see How to take FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED). If used in high doses (4 g or more), the glutamine in FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED might increase the risk of mania or hypomania (see Possible side effects). Glutamine is a precursor to the excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate. FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED contains 1 g of glutamine per recommended daily dose.

You must use FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED with caution if you have epilepsy or a seizure disorder. Although it has not been reported in humans, glutamine is metabolised to glutamate and an excess amount of both might lower the seizure threshold. You must strictly adhere to the dosage instructions (see How to take FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED) and report any increase in seizure frequency to your treating doctor.

Other medicines and FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED

Always tell your healthcare provider if you are taking any other medicine. (This includes all complementary or traditional medicines.)

If you are taking any medicines to suppress your immune system, you should not take FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED (see Do NOT take FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED).

If you are taking any of the following medicines, please discuss their concomitant use with FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED with your doctor, pharmacist, or other healthcare provider before you start treatment with it:

• Antibiotics for a bacterial infection – separate the doses of FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED and antibiotics by at least two hours to prevent the antibiotic from killing a significant number of the live and active micro-organisms in the probiotic combination.
• Medicines to treat epilepsy or a seizure disorder – although not reported in humans, it is possible that the glutamine in FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED might make these medicines less effective (see Warnings and precautions).
• Medicines to treat diabetes – you will require monitoring of your blood sugar levels, especially when you start or stop treatment with FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED since inulin may also reduce blood sugar levels. You also need to be careful with herbs and supplements that may lower blood sugar when used in medicinal amounts. Examples of such herbs and supplements include, amongst others, alfalfa, aloe, holy basil, fenugreek, ginger, horsetail, and turmeric.

FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED with food
You can take FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED with or without food (see How to take FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED).

Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, please consult your doctor, pharmacist, or other healthcare provider for advice before taking FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED.
There is insufficient reliable information about the use of FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Use is not recommended.

Driving and using machines
No specific studies have been conducted. Given its side effect profile (see Possible side effects), it is unlikely that FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED will affect your ability to drive or use machines.
It is not always possible to predict to what extent FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED may interfere with your daily activities. Please ensure that you do not engage in the above activities until you are aware of the measure to which FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED affects you.

4. Possible side effects

FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED can have side effects.

Not all side effects reported for FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED are included in this leaflet. Should your general health worsen or if you experience any untoward effects while taking FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED, please consult your healthcare provider for advice.

It is important not to exceed the recommended dose. FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED is usually well tolerated when used in the prescribed dosage.

Stop taking FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED and immediately report to your doctor or the emergency department of the nearest hospital if you experience any of the following serious side effects:

Those for which the frequency is not known:

• Skin rash with itching, swelling of the lips, face, tongue or throat, or difficult breathing as this may be due to an allergic reaction (see Warnings and precautions)
• Fever or chills accompanied by a skin rash or skin lesions, coughing, headache, generally feeling unwell, sore throat, stomach pain or pain over the blader as these may be due to an infection (see Warnings and precautions).

If you experience any of the above, it may indicate a serious reaction to FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED and you may require urgent medical attention.

Stop taking FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED and report to your doctor as soon as possible if you experience any of the following side effects:

Those for which the frequency is not known:

• Inability to sleep, racing thoughts, excitability, highly energetic or feeling rushed and driven, especially if you are known with bipolar mood disorder (see Warnings and precautions).

Any of the above may indicate a reaction to FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED that may require medical attention.

Please report the following side effects to your doctor if they continue or become bothersome:

Those that occur frequently:

• Flatulence, bloating, diarrhoea (runny stomach), constipation, stomach cramps (especially if you have exceeded the dosage)
• Belching, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain.

Those that occur less frequently:

• Loose stools, stomach rumbling
• Worsening diarrhoea, burning of the stomach.

Those for which the frequency is not known:

• Headache
• Cough.

If you notice any side effects not mentioned in this leaflet, please inform your doctor or pharmacist.

Reporting of side effects
If you get side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. You can also report side effects to SAHPRA via the Med Safety APP (Medsafety X SAHPRA) and eReporting platform (who-umc.org) found on the SAHPRA website. By reporting side effects, you can help provide more information on the safety of FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED.

5. How to store FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED
Store at or below 25 °C. Keep the sachets tightly closed. Keep in the outer carton until required for use.
Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging material.
Do not dispose of unused FLORA FORCE SLIPPERY ELM ADVANCED in drains or sewerage systems (e.g., toilets). Return all unused medicines to your pharmacist.
STORE ALL MEDICINES OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
