四 妙 丸 / Si Miao Wan
Treats the following symptoms:
Four Marvel was recorded in the ancient medicine book “Danxi’s Mastery of Medicine”, edited by Zhu Danxi in Yuan Dynasty and published in 1347 AD. The main action of the prescription is to clear Damp and Heat. Due to the combination of Huai Niu Xi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae) and Huai Niu Xi, it has the effect of strengthening the Kidneys, is dedicated to clear Dampness and Heat of the lower limbs and strengthening muscles and bones.
Clinically mainly used for prostatitis, swelling and pain of lower limb joints, numbness of legs, soreness of muscles and bones, atrophy of lower extremities, women’s morbid leucorrhoea, genital itching, men’s scrotum dampness, itching, and eczema of lower legs. It can also be used for lower extremity arteriosclerosis, thrombophlebitis, diabetic foot and other traditional Chinese medicine diseases belong to Damp–Heat in limbs or Lower Jiao.
PROSTATITIS
Disease description:
Prostatitis is defined as the inflammation of the prostate gland. The chestnut-sized prostate lies below the bladder and produces a fluid secretion which is released via the urethra during ejaculation, where it mixes with the sperm to form the actual sperm. Prostatitis can lead to different symptoms, typically pain in the perineal area and problems urinating.
Pain in the pelvic area for more than three months in the last six months is called a chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CCPS), the most common form of prostatitis, often the cause is unknown.
Explanation according to the Traditional Chinese Medicine:
Chinese medicine believes that there are three pathological changes in chronic prostatitis and enlarged prostate.
- Damp and Heat accumulation. Symptoms are characterized by urinary tract irritation or even haematuria.
- Qi and Blood Stasis. Symptoms are characterized by enlarged prostate, as well as perineum or lower abdomen and sometimes lumbosacral pain.
- Deficiency of Kidney Yin or Kidney Yang. Symptoms are characterized by waist and knee soreness, fatigue, weakness, impotence and premature ejaculation.

VAGINAL DISCHARGE
Disease description:
A little vaginal discharge is normal and occurs in every woman. As part of normal body function, the daily secretion of secretions may vary from woman to woman and the amount of discharge may change during the cycle. A healthy vaginal flora, including vaginal discharge, prevents the penetration and proliferation of germs and ensures the correct vaginal acidity level. Bacterial infections, fungal infestation and viruses can cause vaginal discharge. Taking antibiotics also disturb the vaginal flora, resulting in an imbalance that provides a better breeding ground for pathogenic germs or fungi. They can cause symptoms such as redness, itching, burning, pain in the vaginal area, extreme dryness or a coloured or foul-smelling discharge.
Explanation according to the Traditional Chinese Medicine:
The main cause of the vaginal discharge is Damp Evil. Dampness can be caused by Spleen Deficiency or insufficient Kidney Yang. Both may lead to water metabolism failure and Dampness Retention. Moreover, an External Dampness or Invading Damp Heat can lead to discharge.

VAGINAL ITCHING

Vaginal itching can have many different causes. The most common non-infectious cause is excessive intimate hygiene. The natural bacterial flora of the vagina can be thrown out of balance due to too frequent washing or hormonal fluctuations. Psychological problems can also be a cause of vaginal itching. Persistent itching can indicate fungal infections of the vagina. They also show symptoms such as burning of the vagina, whitish patches, reddened vaginal skin and an altered, usually coloured discharge and urine.
Explanation according to the Traditional Chinese Medicine:
The occurrence of vaginal itching is mainly due to malfunction of Liver, Kidney and Spleen. If the Liver derive Heat and the weakness Spleen derived Dampness, the Dampness and Heat will stagnate in the vulva and itching will occur. It is also possible that Liver and Kidney Deficiency leading to insufficient Yin and Blood support of the genitals and causing itchiness. It is then a Deficiency Heat Pattern.

Intense vulvar or vaginal itching, yellow vaginal discharge, occasionally pain on intercourse, restlessness, irritability, insomnia, dark urine.
