A superior form of magnesium due to the fact that it is bonded in a stable chelate with orotic acid. Used for patients with myocardial infarction and cardiomyopathy.
Each capsule contains:
MAGNESIUM OROTATE | 300.00 mg |
PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION
Magnesium orotate is a magnesium salt of orotic acid which is at the same time a magnesium chelate. Being a chelate of magnesium, it does not dissociate into magnesium ions and orotate ions like other magnesium salts. Instead, the whole complex molecule of magnesium orotate is absorbed as such and transported to organs in the body where it is utilised. Because of the presence of orotic acid ( a pyrimidine) in the molecule, magnesium orotate is transported to sites in the body where active pyrimidine metabolism occurs, such as the heart muscle. As a result, magnesium orotate can protect against myocardial infarction and recently infracted hearts as well as cardiomyopathy. It has been shown that orotic acid in the form of magnesium orotate can improve the energy status of recently infarcted hearts. It achieves this by improving myocardial purine and pyrimidine metabolism. Magnesium orotate also reduces the severity of chronic myocardial infarction as well as the structural damage that results from cardiomyopathy. It also improves exercise tolerance in patients with coronary artery insufficiency. All magnesium preparations have a beneficial effect on the heart but magnesium orotate is more efficient than for example magnesium chloride because of the special transport mechanism discussed above. For this reason much lower doses of magnesium orotate can be used.
